Lakeshore Food Club
Who we are.
The Lakeshore Food Club in partnership with the Lakeshore Resource Network is the result of collective efforts by individuals and organizations pushing for positive change to build a stronger community.
During the planning stages, we surveyed area food pantries and consumers, finding a great need for not only food assistance, but training in areas of financial literacy, workforce development, healthy eating, etc., to promote a transition from requiring immediate assistance to self-sufficiency. We then extensively researched pantry programs, methods, and models for best practices.
A centralized location of resources, including food access with expanded hours and an emphasis on consumer choice, was identified as a solution to serve families and persons in a way that not only gives fish, but also teaches how to fish.
What is the Lakeshore Food Club (LFC)?
The Lakeshore Food Club is a supermarket style pantry offering a wide range of food options during convenient hours. LFC requires a 30 day membership and a $10 membership fee. Members are given points based on household size. Points spend like cash allowing members to access the food club as often or as seldom as they choose during the membership period to shop with their designated points.
We aim to promote dignity, respect, and the reduction of stigmas while supporting the concepts of Love - Feed - Connect.
Our Neighbors
Love:
The aim of the Lakeshore Food Club is to provide stability and support to our Members while fostering dignity and respect through the promotion of personal choice and habits of self-sufficiency.
Feed:
Hearts, Minds, and Bodies
The Lakeshore Food Club, in partnership with the Lakeshore Resource Network, not only increases access to nourishing food, but also provides a convenient and accessible space in the community to “teach a man to fish.” Engaging, meaningful programming provides knowledge and skills to make healthy choices within the context of personal circumstances.
Connect:
Households to Sustainable Resources
In addition to promoting food security, the Lakeshore Food Club is bolstered by a centralized, collaborative network of community service providers to address immediate needs and connect households to other resources and opportunities for lasting solutions.
